Sounds & Motion worked with our client Imagination to deliver an underwater experience as the centrepiece of Woodside’s LNG18 exhibition stand in April 2016. Woodside’s goal was to draw attendees to their stand by building intrigue to then showcase its environmental research, which has been conducted during their underwater explorations.

The vision was to be projected on to a 180° screen and Imagination turned to us to create a spatial soundscape to truly immerse and captivate each visitor.

Woodside’s presence was a standout amongst the exhibitors at LNG18 exhibition, the client was extremely happy and audiences wowed by the innovative delivery of content.

“Des, Nick and Felix – what a team! The soundscape is amazing and you guys have really delivered, well done and thank you.” Chelline Nel Producer, Imagination

Sounds & Motion’s role on this project was to design an original soundscape, create the spatial audio mix, speaker design and layout, deployment of Barco’s IOSONO Core Audio processor and on site sound support. We worked with our client Imagination, and alongside Proj-X Design who designed and built the stand.

In an Australian first, Rizer, a dynamic event production company based in Sydney, engaged Sounds & Motion to deliver an immersive 3D soundscape for News Corp Australia’s ‘Come Together 2015’. The annual event used to announce their major commercial initiatives for the year ahead to their clients, partners, media and creative agencies.

Held at Stage 7 at Fox Studios Australia, on 30 July, 800 people were treated to an a unique multi-sensory experience, reflective of News Corp’s focus on innovation and multi platform delivery of content.

Sounds & Motion created and delivered the immersive sound experience for the event. The result was an exciting sound experience that completely immersed the audience, drawing them into and making them part of their surrounds.

In addition to the sound design, Sounds & Motion was integral to Rizer’s event production. Managing the audio components included pre-recording the orchestra, mixing all sound elements in IOSONO’s Spatial Audio Workstation, providing all audio personnel, sound system design and installation. The event speaker system consisted of 44 individual speaker channels, each individually addressed by the IOSONO Processor.

Sydney, March, 2015. The future of professional sound has arrived in Australia with Barco’s IOSONO branded professional sound system, distributed by Sounds & Motion. Developed in Germany by global technology company Barco, the innovative sound platform creates an immersive listening environment and can be used for live events, permanent installations, experiential activations, showrooms, theme parks and any other venue where adding an engaging soundscape to complement Barco’s award winning visual display technologies are required.

Des O’Neill, General Manager, Sounds & Motion said: “As visual technology has rapidly advanced in recent years, audiences viewing demands have increased and IOSONO will similarly revolutionize expectations of the quality of the soundscape. The introduction of immersive sound technology of this calibre into our market is an Australian first - Sounds & Motion's mantra is to deliver innovative audio solutions for any media production and we’re convinced that Barco’s IOSONO branded pro audio technology and products offer the best results.

“Immersive and engaging sound is no longer just a future trend but fully available and accessible for use at experiential activations, installations and events. Internationally the technology is being used for a range of innovate new projects such as Saudi Arabia’s soon to be launched Virtual Reality Science Center to the Björk exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art and there is a great opportunity for this technology to deliver truly immersive soundscapes that set our Australian clients apart,” said O’Neill.

"Local distribution partners are important for us to establish Barco’s IOSONO branded products internationally and provide the best service possible to our clients. Sounds & Motion has a strong experience in professional audio and we're looking forward to working on new projects in Australia together with them," says Olaf Stepputat, Director Audio Solutions at Barco.

Together with Barco's Professional Audio team, Sounds & Motion has created a sound lab at Sounds & Motion's studios in North Sydney. The core of Barco’s pro audio sound system is the IOSONO CORE audio processor, which manages all loudspeakers channels. Barco’s pro audio technology allows the playback of dimentionalised audio and additionally supports conventional formats. The IOSONO CORE can adapt to any size venue or speaker arrangement and is ideal for sound systems in event and themed entertainment applications creating high quality soundscapes.

Immersive sound for The Matrix Live

1/10/2014

Sounds and Motion recently worked with The Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) to deliver a true innovation in sound.

The sci-fi thriller The Matrix was projected live on the big screen with Don Davis's score played by the orchestra in the Sydney Opera House's Concert Hall. Using IOSONO's spatial audio processor we created an immersive sound experience for the movie's sound effects and dialogue - which made the audience feel like they were truly in the movie with sound moving around them! This was the second time the SSO has used IOSONO, the first being their Classical and Spectacular concert in June.

"In my role as consultant and engineer for the SSO’s amplified concerts within the Sydney Opera House, we’ve been working to make the sound from the live elements of these concerts feel in natural balance with the orchestra. As the leading 3D audio solution for live events IOSONO was chosen for The Matrix Live as we felt the sci-fi nature of the the film’s content would really lend itself to immersive sound" said Des O'Neill.

3D Sound Case Studies from our Partner IOSONO

13/8/2014

3D audio is an emerging and innovative sound platform that is making waves around the world for the truly immersive experience it delivers to audiences.

Here we take a look at some of the events IOSONO has been integral in creating with it’s global partners.

Sounds & Motion has recently established an exclusive partnership with IOSONO to deliver 3D audio for the Australian market.

Outdoor Events

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra

China’s first IOSONO 3D outdoor concert was held on the waterfront in October 2013 at Shanghai’s North Bund.

The acclaimed Shanghai Symphony Orchestra played European and Chinese classics for an audience of 700. Against the backdrop the nightly city skyline visitors enjoyed concert hall acoustics in the open air location.

The waterfront location had a stunning view and was nested between new high rise buildings on a staging area constructed specifically for this onetime event. The 90 piece orchestra was reinforced using an IOSONO 3D sound system specifically configured to give a crystal clear listening experience to every audience member. “Besides using normal speakers above the orchestra as one might find in typical events like this, our team used additional speakers surrounding the audience and overhead to add reverberation, creating a concert hall without walls,” says Jeff Levison, Executive VP of IOSONO China.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, 2013

40,000 people saw the open air production of Bizet's "Carmen" set against the splendid backdrop of Sydney Harbour.

Multimedia Productions

Deutsche Oper, Germany

In Germany, IOSONO worked with artist network phase7 for their multimedia production - the walk-in opera "Celestial Mechanics - Displaced and Relocated" in August 2013 at Deutsche Oper Berlin.

This event broke new new ground in terms of staging and technology. The production guided visitors through the foyer of Deutsche Oper Berlin, making the audience part of the installation. With large scale projections and immersive soundscapes, "Celestial Mechanics" was truly a 360 degrees-experience.

Walking through the production, the audience hears storms howling and sees lightning and stars fall from the sky. While four singers and six musicians play live, not always to be seen, the strings only play virtually. With the help of IOSONO's 3D sound technology, the audience gets fully wrapped in sound arrangements, complemented by striking visuals.

HTC One launch at the CarriageWorks

1/5/2012

Sounds & Motion created an immersive soundscape for the launch of the new HTC One phone at the Carriageworks in April 2012. The event was packed with hundreds of people eager to try out the latest devices. A giant screen was erected to display commercials and video footage aimed at the audience.

The services of Sounds & Motion were engaged to design sound for the event and to help bring the video material to life on the massive screen. This involved using complex surround sound to truly bring out a 3D effect. The screen was so wide that columns of speakers had to be dotted along the sides and back of the screen to give proper audio coverage.

The design meant the audience was able to stand in front of the screen and be immersed in a truly surround sound experience as they watched the commercials play on the screen. A key moment was the shot of a skier coming down a snowy slope. This was enhanced with an audio effect of snow and wind creating the illusion that the skier was in fact going to emerge from the screen. This really wowed the audience!

The project was immensely successful and at the forefront of audio technology. Delight was seen and expressed by the audience throughout.
